The Oral History Master of Arts (OHMA) at Columbia University Graduate School of Arts and Sciences is the only program of its kind in the United States. This one-year interdisciplinary program trains students in oral history methods, theory, fieldwork, and creative/analytical tools, including digital media and publishing. Students learn to record, analyze, and amplify first-person stories and critical community histories, preparing for careers in academia, archives, museums, human rights, education, and consulting. The curriculum includes core courses such as Oral History Workshop, Fieldwork, Production & Archiving, and Curating Oral History. Graduates benefit from strong career services, with 90% job placement within a year after graduation.
