Columbia University's School of General Studies offers a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) to nontraditional students—those whose educational backgrounds have been interrupted for at least one year by work, family, or other circumstances. The GS program is fully integrated with Columbia College, sharing faculty, courses, and degree standards. Students pursue the same Core Curriculum as other undergraduates, including foundational courses in writing, literature, civilization, arts, science, and foreign languages. GS students can select from over 70 majors in the liberal arts and sciences, and approximately 30% of Columbia undergraduates are GS students. The school is recognized for welcoming a diverse, mature, and international student body.
