The B.A. in East Asian Studies at Columbia University’s School of General Studies is a rigorous liberal arts degree exploring the languages, histories, cultures, and societies of East Asia. The major offers students interdisciplinary coursework in disciplines such as history, literature, philosophy, and political science, combined with advanced studies in East Asian languages (Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Tibetan, or Vietnamese). Students also participate in research and may prepare a senior thesis. The program prepares graduates for professional, academic, and cross-cultural careers.
