The UCSC M.A. in Education and California Teaching Credential Program is a one-year, intensive graduate program designed to prepare future teachers to serve California's diverse K–12 student population. Students simultaneously earn a Master of Arts in Education and are eligible to apply for a California Preliminary Teaching Credential (either Multiple Subject for elementary or Single Subject for secondary teaching in disciplines such as math, English, social science, or science). The program features collaborative cohort learning, field placements for student teaching, preparation for teaching English learners, and an option for a Spanish Bilingual Authorization. Graduates are trained as social justice advocates for equitable and effective schooling. Entry into the program is not permitted for holders of existing teaching credentials.
