The Bachelor of Arts in Music at the University of California, Santa Cruz offers a uniquely diverse curriculum tailored for students interested in a broad liberal-arts music education. Students can focus their studies in one of three concentrations: Compositional Practices, Global Musics, or Western Art Music. The program emphasizes the development of musicianship, critical familiarity with diverse musical practices, music theory, ethnomusicology, sound studies, composition, and aural skills across genres and cultural contexts. Graduates are prepared for further study or careers in music performance, teaching, digital arts, arts administration, and related fields. The BA curriculum supports both students aspiring to professional music careers and those interested in developing as scholar-performers and composers. Ensemble participation, composition, and original research are integral to the student experience.
