The BA in Critical Race and Ethnic Studies at UC Santa Cruz offers an interdisciplinary program built upon the expertise of renowned faculty in the field. The curriculum gives students a rigorous grounding in theories and histories of race, racialization, and racism, focusing on how practices of power and domination as well as struggles for liberation have shaped societies locally and globally. Students receive exposure to multiple analytical frameworks (transnational, comparative, gender/sexuality, anti-racist practice), and can pursue targeted areas of interest through elective selections. The degree develops critical thinking, research, and communication skills relevant to careers in humanities, social sciences, law, education, public health, and more. The program is flexible, allowing for individualized study or specialized focus. There is also a 4+1 BA/MA pathway in Education for interested students.
