The Global and Community Health B.S. at UC Santa Cruz prepares students for careers in medicine, direct patient care, and other health professions by emphasizing the biological foundations of health and disease and their interaction with social, political, economic, and environmental factors. Students choose from two concentrations: Biomedical (focusing on the biology of disease, advanced genetics, physiology, and medical Spanish) or Public and Community Health (interweaving biological and social determinants of health, advanced community health). The program requires foundational courses in biology, chemistry, calculus, and statistics; upper-division core in biochemistry, epidemiology, and environmental health; a capstone interdisciplinary team project; and internships in healthcare settings. Graduates are prepared for professional programs (medicine, dentistry, pharmacy) or public/community health roles.
