The Marine Biology B.S. program at the Division of Physical & Biological Sciences, University of California Santa Cruz introduces students to the diversity of marine organisms and the physical and biological processes shaping their coastal and oceanic ecosystems. The curriculum emphasizes understanding marine environments through a rigorous course load including immersive laboratory and field courses, research opportunities, and strong foundational science coursework. Students gain hands-on experience thanks to UCSC's proximity to Monterey Bay, involvement in local federal and state marine laboratories, and unique facilities such as running seawater labs and marine mammal research centers. Graduates are prepared for further education and careers in academia, industry, conservation, fisheries management, and government agencies.
