The Bachelor of Science in Engineering and Physics (Sc.B.) at Brown University, jointly offered by the School of Engineering and the Department of Physics, allows students to integrate rigorous training in both engineering and physics. The degree is designed for students interested in both disciplines and provides a strong foundation for research careers. The curriculum includes significant laboratory work in both fields, a balance of core science/math requirements, and multiple upper-level electives. The program structure involves two introductory courses in engineering or physics, five courses in mathematics/applied mathematics or mathematical physics, a computer programming course, and ten additional courses in physics and/or engineering subjects such as electricity and magnetism, advanced classical mechanics, electrical circuits, chemistry or continuum mechanics, quantum mechanics, and solid state physics. A senior thesis in engineering or physics is also required. The program is not ABET-accredited. Students may begin their studies following either the standard physics or engineering undergraduate curriculum before switching into this combined program in later years.
