The Master of Music (Music Performance) is a professional research degree, previously offered by the University of Melbourne's Faculty of Fine Arts and Music, designed to prepare students for specialist careers in music performance. The program included regular individual tuition, weekly Performance Classes, and required candidates to present two major public recitals (instrumental/vocal) or conduct two major performances (conducting). It provided advanced, research-led training with opportunities for ensemble work and minor research thesis components. Admission typically required a Bachelor of Music (Honours) or equivalent with a high academic standard, plus a rigorous audition. Note: As of 2025, this specialization has been consolidated into the broader Master of Music (Research) program, but the Music Performance stream remains available under that structure.
