The LL.M. (Legum Magister) at Heidelberg University's Faculty of Law is a full-time, graduate-level program designed for law graduates from universities outside Germany. Its core objective is to familiarize students with the essentials of the German legal system, including the intersection with international and European law. The curriculum integrates compulsory modules in Civil Law and Public Law, a seminar linking research and learning, electives, a Magister thesis, and an oral examination focused on the thesis area. Modules emphasize foundational German civil and public law, research-oriented seminars, and advanced elective options including criminology and key foundational subjects. The program culminates with a Magister thesis and oral exam, first requiring successful completion of compulsory modules. Teaching is conducted exclusively in the winter semester, on-campus in Heidelberg.
