The Matter to Life Master’s program at Heidelberg University, jointly offered with Göttingen University as part of the Max Planck School Matter to Life, educates students at the interface of chemistry, physics, molecular life sciences, and engineering. The curriculum is highly interdisciplinary, starting with core knowledge in Master-level chemistry, physics, and biology of living systems, progressing to molecular and technical approaches to biological problems, and culminating in two semesters of laboratory-based research work. All teaching is by recognized Matter to Life Fellows across Germany, offering students unrivaled networking and research opportunities. Key learning areas include physical chemistry of life, quantitative analysis, physics of complex systems, synthetic chemistry, and synthetic biology. Successful graduates are prepared for careers in advanced research, industry (pharma, chemical, biotech), or progression to PhD, especially through the Max Planck School Matter to Life.
