The Master of Science in Data and Computer Science at Heidelberg University’s Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science deepens students’ understanding of core topics in computer science and data science as developed in a bachelor’s degree. The curriculum provides a flexible structure allowing for specializations in fields such as machine learning, data analysis, visualization, algorithms, or the construction of complex (software) systems. The program strongly emphasizes methods and processes for the analysis, modelling, and simulation of complex and distributed systems, with applications in multiple scientific and technological domains. Close collaborations with the Interdisciplinary Center for Scientific Computing enhance expertise in simulation and optimization of complex phenomena. Graduates are prepared for independent work in planning, designing, and evaluating large-scale software projects, and can pursue careers in academia, industry, and research. The language of instruction is English, and the program can be completed entirely in English. Some elective courses may be offered in German.
