The Master of Education in German at the Faculty of Modern Languages, Heidelberg University, provides future educators with advanced specialized and didactic knowledge of German language and literature. The program covers recent German literature, linguistics, and medieval studies, emphasizing the design of effective teaching and learning processes for German instruction. Students learn to analyze the sociocultural, historical, and theoretical contexts of German language and literature and acquire practical, methodological, and theoretical competencies for professional practice. The curriculum is modular, with 31 ECTS in the German component (18 ECTS subject-specific, 13 ECTS didactics), and includes seminars, didactics courses, a blended inter-university module, and a final Master's thesis.
