The Master of Conservation Biology at The University of Queensland (UQ) is a 1-year intensive postgraduate coursework program designed to equip students with advanced scientific knowledge and practical skills in conservation, ecology, and biodiversity. Developed and delivered by leading experts, the program emphasizes solutions for restoring and maintaining viable populations of animal and plant species in both natural and managed ecosystems. It integrates theory with hands-on fieldwork at renowned biodiversity sites such as subtropical rainforests, national parks, and UQ’s research stations on Heron Island, Moreton Bay, and Hidden Vale. The curriculum covers biodiversity conservation, environmental philosophy, conservation policy, systematic conservation decision-making, sampling design and analysis, and geographical information systems. Extensive fieldwork and lab-based activities train graduates to confront complex conservation problems and prepare for diverse careers, including roles as ecologists, biodiversity educators, and policy advisors.
