Boston College Connell School of Nursing launched its Master of Science in Nursing – Nurse-Midwifery program in 2025, the only such program in Eastern Massachusetts. This is a 24-month, full-time, in-person program consisting of 16 courses (48 credits) and at least 750 hours of clinical practice. The curriculum is designed to prepare clinically competent nurse-midwives who provide the full scope of midwifery care: from adolescence through the lifespan, focusing on respectful, evidence-based, and family-centered care. Students learn advanced practice skills in outpatient and inpatient care, with coursework and clinical placements at major Boston hospitals and community health centers. The program addresses critical shortages in obstetric care, aiming to improve maternal and neonatal outcomes, especially in underserved communities.
