The Dual Master of Arts (M.A./M.A.) in Theology and Ministry and Mental Health Counseling at Boston College pairs graduate-level studies in counseling psychology and mental health counseling with rigorous theological and ministerial formation. The 84-credit licensure track meets Massachusetts requirements for licensure as a Mental Health Counselor, while the 78-credit track prepares students for further academic pursuits or non-licensure careers. Students are jointly enrolled by the Clough School of Theology and Ministry and the Lynch School of Education & Human Development, benefit from dual faculty advising, and undertake an integrated curriculum. Graduates typically work in mental health agencies, shelters, pastoral care placements in parishes, campus ministries, prisons, and youth programs, equipped with both counseling competencies and substantial theological grounding. Applicants must separately apply and gain admission to both participating schools. The program begins only in the fall semester.
