The Bachelor of Arts in Art History at Case Western Reserve University provides students with a comprehensive grounding in the history of art across a wide variety of media and cultural contexts. The curriculum places strong emphasis on developing technical and critical language to analyze art, as well as sound writing skills. Students benefit from close cooperation with leading cultural institutions, especially the Cleveland Museum of Art with classes and research projects often taking place at the museum. The program prepares students to discuss, analyze, and synthesize primary and secondary resources, using multiple interpretive approaches to understand the social, political, and cultural values expressed in art. Internship opportunities with major museums and arts institutions in University Circle are a key practical component. Foreign language study, especially French, German, or Italian, is highly recommended for majors.
