The Bachelor of Arts in English at the College of Arts and Sciences, Case Western Reserve University, helps students develop advanced skills in reading, writing, and media analysis. The program offers seminars on English and American literature, poetry, Shakespeare, science fiction, film, rhetoric of medicine, and the dynamics of various literary genres. Flexible curriculum allows students to pursue interests in literature, creative writing, journalism, and media, and to prepare for further study in fields such as law or management. Learning outcomes focus on research proficiency, literary and cultural interpretation, clear argument-based writing, and awareness of English studies' historical and social contexts. A secondary major in Teacher Education is available for students admitted prior to Fall 2024, especially for those seeking teaching licensure. Honors and capstone options are provided, and select advanced seminars are offered each semester.
