The Bachelor of Arts in Physics at Case Western Reserve University’s College of Arts and Sciences provides foundational training in classical mechanics, electromagnetism, quantum mechanics, thermal/ statistical physics, and develops laboratory, data analysis, and computational skills. Compared to the Bachelor of Science in Physics, the BA requires 27 fewer credit hours of physics courses and three fewer advanced laboratories, allowing greater flexibility for pursuing double majors or interests in other disciplines. The program is ideal for students seeking a broad science education, those considering careers combining physics with arts, business, law, medicine, or teaching, or those interested in obtaining teacher licensure for grades 7–12. The curriculum includes a capstone project in the senior year, which can focus on experimental, theoretical, or teaching research, mentored by faculty from on- or off-campus. While less intensive than the BS path, careful elective choice enables preparation for graduate study in physics.
