ETH Zurich’s Bachelor’s degree in Humanities, Social and Political Sciences is designed to complement the institution’s technical and scientific programs, ensuring students develop broad analytical abilities and contextual understanding. Students explore how science and technology interact with cultural, ethical, historical, political, and social issues. The program, known as 'Science in Perspective', is an integral part of all ETH degree courses, requiring all undergraduate students to earn at least six ECTS credits in these areas. Through lectures and elective seminars offered by the Department of Humanities, Social and Political Sciences (D-GESS), students gain new perspectives, critical reflection skills, and the ability to recognize systemic relationships across disciplines. The curriculum prepares graduates for the complex social and global challenges they will face in technical or scientific careers.
