EPFL's Master of Science in Computer Science program, offered by the School of Computer and Communication Sciences (IC), is among the most rigorous and renowned in Europe. The program covers advanced digital technologies, distributed information systems, security, software systems, and includes core and elective courses in both fundamental and emerging areas of computer science. Students may opt for the Computer Engineering specialization, which focuses on the design, development, and optimization of hardware/software interfaces, computer architectures, embedded systems, and related cyber-physical concepts. The curriculum requires at least four core courses from distinct IC research domains, a mandatory internship, and a Master's project. From Autumn 2025, the updated program structure requires specializations in four areas—AI & Data Science, Computer Systems, Foundations of Computing, and Cyber Security—but specializations named 'Computer Engineering' will no longer be awarded to new students; foundational content is integrated under 'Computer Systems.'
