The Earth Surface and Water MSc at Utrecht University focuses on the study of both natural and human-induced physical and geochemical processes at and near the Earth’s surface. The program prepares students to address key questions about water distribution and quality, flooding, climate change impacts, landscape evolution, and related geohazards. It offers four thematic tracks: Environmental Geochemistry, Hydrology, Coastal Dynamics and Fluvial Systems, and Geohazards and Earth Observation. Students learn through a combination of coursework, field/lab research, and independent thesis work, using cutting-edge laboratory and computational tools. The program aims to develop skills for scientific research and problem-solving relevant to sustainable management of water resources and the environment.
