The Bachelor of Arts in European Studies at the University of Amsterdam offers an interdisciplinary curriculum where students gain insight into the culture, history, politics, law, and economics of Europe. A mandatory component is the study of a modern European language (choices include Italian, Spanish, Modern Greek, French, German, among others), through which students achieve proficiency by the end of the program. The curriculum is structured around core courses in European studies, a language component, and opportunities to specialize in majors such as European History, Culture, Politics, Economics, Law, or East European Studies. The program emphasizes critical thinking, intercultural skills, and research capabilities. Instruction is in English, with language studies in the target modern European language. Graduates receive a recognized BA degree and may pursue careers in fields such as diplomacy, international business, cultural management, or further academic study.
