This Bachelor's program at the University of Amsterdam explores the thoughts, actions, and social dynamics of people from different societies around the world. Students learn to conduct ethnographic research by immersing themselves in (sub)cultures, examining topics including health, geopolitics, power dynamics, resistance, migration, gender, inclusion/exclusion, and nationalism. The program emphasizes critical perspectives, real-world impact, and civic engagement. Students choose between an English-only or a Dutch/English dual-language track, with lectures in English in the initial semesters and the option for Dutch or English tutorials. Graduates often pursue research, policy, journalism, NGOs, or work in cultural institutions.
