The Master of Agricultural and Life Sciences at the Graduate School of Agricultural and Life Sciences (GSALS), The University of Tokyo, offers multidisciplinary education and research programs that cover a wide spectrum of agriculture, life sciences, food security, environmental conservation, and sustainable ecosystem services. The curriculum is designed for students to complete coursework in the first six months, followed by original research leading to a master’s thesis. Most regular programs are Japanese-taught, but the International Program in Agricultural Development Studies (IPADS) provides research-based training entirely in English and focuses on transdisciplinary issues relevant to global agriculture and sustainability. Students benefit from active participation in seminars, thematic workshops, and interaction with world-class faculty and international peers. Graduates gain skills applicable to research, the global agrifood industry, development agencies, and government. Admissions are competitive and the program is among Asia’s leading agricultural schools.
