The PEAK (Programs in English at Komaba) Bachelor of Environmental Sciences at the University of Tokyo is an interdisciplinary, four-year undergraduate degree delivered entirely in English. Students spend the first two years building a foundation across the liberal arts and Japanese language studies before moving to advanced specialized coursework in environmental sciences. Core themes include environmental principles, management and policy, measurement and evaluation, materials and systems, energy and resources, and human-environment interactions. The curriculum places strong emphasis on both scientific and social science aspects of the environment, blending coursework with laboratory and fieldwork experiences. PEAK aims to nurture globally minded specialists who can address complex environmental challenges through integrated knowledge spanning science, technology, policy, and society. No Japanese is required at entry, but Japanese study is mandatory, supporting proficiency and cultural integration. The final year includes a capstone thesis project.
