The Master in Design Studies (MDes) at Harvard University's Graduate School of Design is a post-professional program designed for individuals wishing to deepen their expertise in design paired with interdisciplinary tools for addressing the most urgent and complex conditions of contemporary society. Students select one of four academic domains—Ecologies, Narratives, Publics, or Mediums—and complete a core set of courses, including research methods and advanced seminars, culminating in a collaborative advanced research project in their final semester. The program is highly flexible, allowing students to tailor their trajectory with courses across Harvard. The Ecologies and Mediums domains are designated as STEM programs, potentially qualifying international graduates for up to 36 months of OPT. Applicants must possess at least an undergraduate degree from any discipline, with the program welcoming candidates from both design and other backgrounds.
