The Master of Arts in Regional Studies – East Asia (RSEA) at Harvard University is an interdisciplinary program designed for graduate-level training in the languages, societies, and cultures of East Asia. The program is highly flexible, allowing students to shape their course of study across a variety of disciplines according to their interests and professional goals. It prepares students for further doctoral work and for careers in academia, government, international business, media, finance, and non-profits. Students typically focus on one or more countries (China, Japan, Korea, or Vietnam) and choose from a diverse curriculum spanning humanities and social sciences. The degree requires sixteen four-credit courses over two years, including a minimum of eight RSEA-approved courses and at least six with significant East Asia–related content. Language study at advanced levels is integrated into the curriculum. The program leverages the vast resources of Harvard, including specialized libraries and faculty expertise.
