The Master of Science in Game Science and Design at Northeastern University's College of Arts, Media and Design is an interdisciplinary, STEM-designated graduate program jointly offered with the Khoury College of Computer Sciences. The program provides comprehensive training in designing and building games, focusing on both technical and creative aspects. Students develop expertise in game mechanics, storytelling, player psychology, analytics, and the business of games. The curriculum encourages project-based learning, collaboration, and research, preparing graduates for diverse roles in game design, research, data analytics, and interactive media. The Oakland campus version of the program benefits from the Bay Area’s vibrant tech industry, and all students work with advisors to build tailored academic pathways supporting their career goals. Coursework covers advanced game mechanics, level and narrative design, user testing, analytics, and the cultural and ethical dimensions of play, and requires a games project or thesis for completion. The program is 34 semester hours in length, typically completed over two years full-time.
