The Bachelor of Arts in Global Asian Studies at Northeastern University is an interdisciplinary undergraduate program within the College of Social Sciences and Humanities. Founded in 1984, it provides a broad liberal arts education focused on the histories, cultures, societies, politics, economies, and languages of East, Southeast, and South Asia, as well as the global Asian diaspora (including Asian America). Students are required to complete at least two years of coursework in an Asian language and pursue study in core fields such as history, politics, and societies, with the flexibility to develop expertise in a focus area (history; society and politics; language, literature, and culture; or religious studies). Experiential learning is emphasized, and students must complete an academic or professional experience abroad, as well as an upper-level capstone course. The curriculum is flexible, allowing the incorporation of courses from other departments or programs, subject to approval. The program prepares graduates for global citizenship with interdisciplinary, cultural, and analytical skills.
