The Bachelor of Science (Food Science and Nutrition) at The University of Auckland is an undergraduate programme that provides comprehensive training in both food science and nutrition. Students may specialise in either the Food Science or Nutrition pathway. The Food Science pathway covers manufacturing, processing, product development, food safety, components and properties of food, as well as advances in food technologies and nutrigenomics. The Nutrition pathway focuses on human nutrition, health promotion, social and economic determinants of eating behaviours, public health nutrition, and population wellbeing. Graduates are prepared for careers in the food industry, research organisations, government departments, health policy and consulting. Many also use this degree as a pathway for further study in dietetics, health sciences, or postgraduate food science and nutrition.
