The Bachelor of Science (Physiology) at The University of Auckland explores how living organisms function, from the cellular to the whole-body level, with a particular focus on understanding the biological processes behind health and disease. The program offers a strong quantitative foundation via courses in biology, chemistry, medical science, and physics, and includes a capstone research project (PHYSIOL 399) in the final year. Students gain skills in scientific research, critical thinking, science communication, and ethics, as well as an understanding of the role of physiology in the medical and healthcare sectors. Physiology graduates are prepared for roles in biomedical research, industry research, healthcare, medical journalism, and are well-positioned for further study in clinical subjects such as medicine or optometry. The Faculty of Science encourages students to combine physiology with complementary disciplines such as Biology, Chemistry, Pharmacology, Mathematics, or Psychology.
