The Bachelor of Science (BSc) majoring in Geographic Information Science at the University of Auckland teaches students to use data from satellites, drones, government sources, and social media to analyze social and natural processes. This program provides strong training in data analysis, modelling, and programming, with real-world applications such as examining relationships between urban inequality and disease or analyzing the effects of sea level rise. Students complete a capstone project in their final year (GISCI 399) demonstrating independent research skills. Graduates are prepared for roles in analysis, cartography, climate science, conservation, geospatial database development, and more, or for postgraduate study.
