The Master of Science in Curriculum and Instruction at UW–Madison School of Education prepares students for advanced roles in education—including becoming curriculum specialists, educational leaders, or licensed secondary teachers specializing in areas such as science, English, mathematics, social studies, or world language. Two main pathways exist: one for teacher certification and one for research-focused career development. The teacher certification program is accelerated, involving 51 graduate credits delivered in a cohort model combining coursework and fieldwork. Emphasis is placed on classroom management, inclusive pedagogy, ESL methodology, curriculum design, and the completion of a master's project and performance assessment portfolio. Graduates are prepared for educational leadership, advanced study at the PhD level, or direct classroom teaching roles.
