The MSW program at the University of Wisconsin–Madison’s School of Social Work offers a specialized focus in Child, Youth, and Family Welfare. Students undertake a generalist advanced practice curriculum with the option to concentrate on this field, preparing for careers in school social work, child welfare, family services, and juvenile justice. The curriculum is grounded in a social justice framework, combining advanced coursework (e.g., Child, Youth, and Family Policies and Services, Interventions with Children, Youth and Families) and extensive, supervised field internships across more than 100 agencies. Both full-time (2-year) and part-time (4-year, hybrid Saturday format) options are available. Advanced standing is offered for students with a recent BSW, expediting their studies. Title IV-E Child Welfare Training grants, including tuition support and stipends, are available for candidates committed to public child welfare employment after graduation.
