The Master of Social Work (MSW) at the Sandra Rosenbaum School of Social Work, University of Wisconsin–Madison, offers a Health focus area within its advanced practice specialization. Students in the Health focus area are professionally prepared to work in a variety of health-related settings, including hospitals, nursing homes, community-based organizations, and policy positions. The curriculum emphasizes advanced skills in care/case management, assessment, brokering, interdisciplinary teamwork, consumer-directed care, and policy analysis regarding health, aging, and disability. Students complete a rigorous field internship, and courses are available such as Social Work Practice in Health Care, Issues in Developmental Disabilities, Social Work Practice in Palliative Care, and Grief, Death, Loss, and Life. The program structure supports both traditional two-year, full-time students and a structured four-year, part-time option for working professionals. Admission requires a bachelor’s degree, a strong undergraduate record (generally a 3.0 GPA or higher), and relevant preparation in the social sciences. The program admits for the fall term only and is not STEM OPT eligible or F-1 visa supported for the part-time track.
