The University of Wisconsin–Madison's Master of Science in Medical Physics program provides strong, comprehensive training in the fundamental physics and engineering concepts underpinning diagnostic and therapeutic medical systems. The program prepares graduates for teaching and research positions in academia, national labs, the medical and nuclear technology industries, and provides foundational training for entry into medical physics residency programs. The curriculum is designed to give in-depth exposure to areas such as x-ray physics, computed tomography (CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI), PET imaging, biomagnetism, ultrasound, radiation dosimetry, treatment planning, and radiobiology, supported by sophisticated research resources and extensive interdisciplinary collaboration across the School of Medicine and Public Health and related departments. Students must complete rigorous coursework, with most completing the program in approximately two years of full-time study.
