The Master of Science in Sustainable Design (MSSD) at the University of Texas at Austin School of Architecture is an interdisciplinary, research-based graduate program. It aims to prepare graduates for doctoral studies, roles as sustainability consultants in architecture, engineering, or public policy, and positions in activism related to sustainable architecture or urbanism. The program combines coursework on light and sustainable design, regenerative architecture, solar geometry, energy flow in buildings, and urban ecology, offering a blend of technical, analytical, and research skills. The degree holds a STEM designation and benefits from UT Austin’s cutting-edge facilities and proximity to the rapidly growing and evolving city of Austin. Students work primarily individually and must complete a research thesis.
