The MSSW/MA in Latin American Studies dual degree at The University of Texas at Austin, offered jointly by the Steve Hicks School of Social Work and the Teresa Lozano Long Institute of Latin American Studies (LLILAS), is designed for students interested in acquiring both professional clinical social work skills and deep interdisciplinary academic knowledge of Latin America. The program prepares graduates to work with Latinx clients and Latin American immigrant populations in the United States or in international settings, combining advanced social work theory/practice with cultural and linguistic competency. Students can pursue clinical or administration/policy practice concentrations within social work. The curriculum leverages over 150 faculty across 30+ departments and allows highly individualized, interdisciplinary training. Completion of the dual degree normally takes three years of full-time study, integrating coursework and practical experience from both disciplines.
