The MA in Sociology at Yale University is conferred primarily as a milestone within the PhD program, not as an independent terminal degree. Graduate student work covers diverse clusters including comparative and historical sociology, culture/knowledge, economic sociology, gender/family/sexuality, global and transnational sociology, health and medicine, law and criminology, political sociology, race and ethnicity, social networks, stratification, and theory. The curriculum includes both required core courses (in theory, statistics, research methods) and electives tailored to faculty and student research interests. Students are encouraged to engage with related centers like the Center for Cultural Sociology, Center for Empirical Research on Stratification and Inequality, and more, developing both broad and specialized knowledge in sociological studies.
