Yale's Sociology program within the Faculty of Arts and Sciences prepares students for advanced careers in research and teaching. Coursework and research are highly interdisciplinary and span a wide array of subfields. The curriculum emphasizes grounding in sociological theory, research methods, and statistics, together with specialization in student-selected research clusters such as social movements, stratification, networks, health, and more. Typically, the MA is earned en route to the Ph.D., not as a terminal program, and includes opportunities for involvement with specialized centers and workshops. The department is internationally recognized and provides extensive academic and financial resources to graduate students.
