The MFA in Photography at Yale School of Art is a two-year graduate program that admits ten students annually. The program offers comprehensive facilities including darkroom, digital, and studio resources. Students receive instruction in black-and-white and color photography, as well as nonsilver and digital image production processes. The curriculum supports a broad, experimental, and expressive definition of photography as a lens-based medium, promoting both individual and group engagements with faculty and visiting artists. Weekly critiques and regular reviews with a panel of faculty and guest critics are integral to the program. Graduation requires the completion of 48 credits in photography and 12 additional credits (including at least 3 credits outside the School of Art), for a total of 60 credits over two years, with a typical course plan and thesis exhibition completed in the final semester.
