The Master of Fine Arts in Dramaturgy and Dramatic Criticism at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale University is an intensive graduate program aimed at preparing students for careers as dramaturgs, critics, editors, artistic producers, and educators. The curriculum integrates seminars in dramatic literature, theater history, theory and criticism, and production dramaturgy, with a focus on institutional dramaturgy and the development of artistic policy. Students engage in extensive professional practice through production work, with over 30 opportunities, and benefit from a collaborative and inclusive educational environment. The program is highly selective and all degree-seeking students receive a full-tuition scholarship, with most also receiving need-based aid toward living expenses. Upon completion of the MFA, graduates may be eligible to apply to the Doctor of Fine Arts (DFA) program if they wish to pursue further scholarly research.
