The Master of Fine Arts in Technical Design and Production (TD&P) at the David Geffen School of Drama at Yale is a graduate professional program designed to train global technical managers and change-makers for the theater and related industries. The curriculum combines hands-on technical skill courses (such as Drafting, Rigging, and Stage Machinery) with theory-based courses (including Production Planning, Technical Management, and Strategies for Inclusion). Students develop practical project management and technical expertise via a series of eight required Professional Work Assignments (PWAs) across the spectrum of theatrical production. Electives allow for customization and concentration in areas like production management, automation, or theater consulting. All students complete a research thesis in their final year. The program practices and teaches anti-racist and collaborative leadership values, enabling graduates to manage teams and complex productions safely and creatively. Admitted students receive full tuition scholarships, with many also receiving living stipend assistance.
