The Bachelor of Arts in Film and Media Studies at Yale University’s Division of Humanities is an interdisciplinary program focusing on the history, theory, criticism, and creative production of cinema and moving-image media. Students examine film and other audiovisual forms as modern art, cultural practice, and means of communication with enduring societal significance. The curriculum offers flexibility within a defined framework, allowing students to shape their course of study. The program includes 12 term courses, with required introductory classes in film and media studies, upper-level courses in world cinema and critical studies, and at least one creative/production course. An intensive major track is available for students seeking deeper research or creative engagement, culminating in both a senior essay and project.
