The Bachelor of Arts in Economics at Yale University, offered through the Division of Social Science (Faculty of Arts and Sciences), provides a rigorous education in economic theory, econometrics, and applied economic analysis. The program emphasizes a liberal arts approach, combining formal analytical tools with breadth exploration of economic phenomena. Students complete twelve term courses: eleven economics courses and one mathematics course. Core requirements include intermediate microeconomics (ECON 2121 or 2125), intermediate macroeconomics (ECON 2122 or 2126), econometrics (ECON 1117, 2123, or 2136), elective economics courses numbered 1159 or higher, and two advanced (ECON 4400–4491) seminars (at least one in the senior year). Writing a senior essay is optional but required for Distinction in the Major. Admission follows Yale College’s undergraduate process. There are no prerequisites for declaring the major.
