The Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics at Yale University offers a comprehensive program that leads to a deep understanding of the phonological, syntactic, and semantic structures of language. The curriculum exposes students to multiple methodologies—including fieldwork, laboratory analysis, computational modeling, and experimental research—and allows for interdisciplinary study across language, cognition, and culture. Students must complete 12 term courses in Linguistics and related areas, including core courses in phonology and syntax, breadth and depth requirements in other subfields, electives (at least one at the 200-level or above), a research methods course, and a senior essay as capstone. Electives may also include courses from related fields such as Anthropology, Cognitive Science, Computer Science, English, Philosophy, or Psychology. The program prepares graduates for advanced study or diverse careers in research, education, technology, and more.
