The Applied Mathematics undergraduate major at Yale College provides a rigorous interdisciplinary foundation in core mathematical modeling, statistics, data analysis, and computational methods. Students complete prerequisites in multivariable calculus, linear algebra, and programming, then progress to core courses in data analysis, probability theory, discrete math, and differential equations. Majors select a three-course concentration in a substantive field where mathematics is applied (e.g., physics, bioinformatics, economics, engineering). The curriculum is designed to enable significant customization and often overlaps with other quantitative disciplines. All students complete a senior thesis involving applied mathematical research. Graduates are well prepared for advanced study in applied mathematics or quantitative careers in research, industry, and technology sectors.
