The Bachelor of Arts in History at Yale College is designed for students who recognize that shaping the future requires knowing the past. The program examines centuries of human activities across global and regional contexts, with students choosing between a Global track (emphasizing broad historical trends worldwide) and a Specialist track (focusing on a region or thematic pathway). Students develop skills in research, analytical argumentation, and storytelling. The program prepares graduates for a variety of fields, such as law, journalism, business, finance, public policy, social activism, and the arts. To fulfill the major, students must complete 12 courses, including prerequisites, departmental seminars, preindustrial requirements, and a senior essay or project. Before entering the major, two term courses in history are required. All Yale undergraduates must complete 36 term courses in total and meet distribution requirements.
